Annie Jr.
I was extremely fortunate to play the leading role of Annie in my school’s rendition of Annie Jr. this year.
Annie Jr. tells the story of a lovable young orphan whose parents left her at the orphanage when she was an infant. She is bossed around by the cruel drunk Miss Hannigan and hopes that one day, her parents will come back for her. One day, Grace Ferrell, private secretary to the billionaire Oliver Warbucks, arrives at the orphanage looking for an orphan to spend the holidays with Mr. Warbucks. Annie is chosen because she stands out for her bright and bubbly personality. During the holidays, Mr. Warbucks grow increasingly fond of Annie but still persists to help her find her parents. One day, a couple comes in claiming they are the lost parents of Annie. They know almost everything about her, but Mr. Warbucks and Annie know something is off. Will Annie live the rest of her life with this suspicious couple or will she live happily ever after with Mr. Warbucks?
This was such a magical, wonderful experience. Although rough at times with confusing choreography, I was able to make it through and perform a great show with all of my peers. However, it was slightly nerve-wracking to execute all of those songs in front of my friends and family. My favorite song to sing was the classic “Tomorrow.” There’s something so surreal about belting a classic in front of an eager audience. The cast and directors were so amazing and I’m excited to perform with them next year, too!
PS: Here you can see that I’ve been a fan of ‘Annie’ for a long time. My mom got me this autograph from the actor who played FDR in the movie.
